The following sample itinerary of our
Northern Tour provides a glimpse at the type of adventure
available with Firelight safaris. Virtually any safari
itinerary may be created
according to the specific wishes of our
guests.
Day 1: Welcome
Met at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania by
your Professional Guide. Overnight in a hotel in Arusha.
If your arrival is during daylight, there is a three
hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Siesta. First
drive in the Park.
Day 2: Trees & Tusks
Tarangire National Park, 1 000 square miles of unspoiled
Africa. 2 000 year-old Baobab trees. Herds of Elephant.
Day 3: Spot search
Early sortie in search of the timid Fringe-eared Oryx,
Eland and lesser Kudu. Impala abound, favourite of the
Leopard, which we may be lucky enough to see.
Day 4: Stars and Stripes
Tarangire. Zebra galore. Wildebeest. Swamp area for
bird life. Night stars.
Day 5: The Big Rift
Morning departure, up the rift - a 5 000 mile crack
in the earth's crust, stretching from Turkey to Zimbabwe.
Afternoon arrival at the new Crater Lodge, located on
the rim of the crater and overnight.
Day 6: Bountiful Bowl
Black-maned Lion. Hyena. Wildebeest. Ngorongoro Crater
is a 112 square-mile wildlife sanctuary. Africa's richness
condensed. A pink sea? It's a flock of Flamingo at lunch.
Overnight in lodge.
Day 7: Merging Traffic
Transfer to Serengeti National Park - "Endless
extended plains" in Maasai. En-route, visit Olduvai
Gorge, birthplace of man.
Days 8 - 10: Predator & Prey
The cats are out. Lion, Cheetah, Leopard and Hyena go
hunting. Their prey? One of the approximately 2-million
animals always available in the Serengeti. Watch!
Days 11 - 13: Plains Game
Thomson gazelle. Grant gazelle. Giraffe. Topi. Wart
hog (how beautiful). Buffalo (big, dangerous), Dik Dik.
Steinbok (tiny, cute). Africa's alphabet soup. Is there
enough film?
Day 14: "Kwaheri. Tutaonana"
Charter flight to Arusha and onward. "Good-bye.
